RISK MANAGEMENT

At UNIMAS, Risk Management is a structured and systematic approach to identifying, assessing, and manageing risks that may affect the University's ability to achieve its strategic objectives.

Risk Management at UNIMAS is embedded across all levels of the organization, covering academic, administrative, research, financial, and operational activities. It enables the University to proactively anticipate potential threats and opportunities, implement appropriate controls, and ensure that risks are managed within acceptable levels.

Guided by best practices and aligned with frameworks such as ISO 31000 Risk Management, UNIMAS adopts a continuous process of risk identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and reporting. This approach supports informed decision-making, strengthens governance, and enhances organizational resilience.

The implementation of Risk Management also promotes a culture of accountability and risk awareness among staff, ensuring that potential issues are addressed early and effectively.

Overall, Risk Management at UNIMAS reflects the University’s commitment to safeguarding its resources, sustaining performance, and achieving its goals in a dynamic and evolving environment.

 

RISK MANAGEMENT UNIT

Risk management in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was transpired by the establishment of Risk Management Unit upon approval by the university’s 54th board members’ meeting on 19 December 2011.

The unit was initially placed under Administration and Safety Division in 2012 prior to restructuring of the university’s organization in 2014, in tandem with the formation of Division of Risk Management which consisted of Risk Management Unit and Occupational Safety & Health Unit.

In 2017 the university’s 37th executive committee convened and agreed to the restructuring and rebranding of Strategic Planning and Quality Management Centre (SQC) to Strategic Planning, Quality and Risk Management Centre (SQRC), where the Risk Management Unit is presently up and running.
