RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

UNIMAS operators of food premises are holders of BeSS (Clean, Safe and Healthy) certificates. The certificate issued by Health Department Sarawak (Food Safety and Quality) section. BeSS certification is a recognition given to food operators to encourage the provision of safe and healthy food as well as nutritional components. There are four quality criteria for the certification which clean premises, safe food, healthy food and proper serving portion.

   

UNIMAS practices outsourcing for waste disposal to the Trinekens Company in which all Trienekens’ scheduled waste operations and facilities are licensed by the Department of Environment, Malaysia (DOE). Trienekens’ collection, transportation, treatment and disposal procedures comply with the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.

   

All solid waste in UNIMAS is also managed by Trinekens where this solid waste will be sent to a landfill for disposal in accordance with the quality and environmental policy practiced by Trinekens. To avoid any leaching of pollutants into groundwater, the landfill is built with a multi-layer base sealing system, comprising of a highly resistant sealing layer using the latest environmental safety material, covered by geotextile and a drainage and filtration layer to guarantee undisturbed flow of the leachate wastewater into the surrounded leachate collection pipes, at all times.
 
 

UNIMAS has embarked towards zero usage of single-use plastics and disposal items. The objective of this campaign is to educate students and staff on the important of taking care of the environment and negative impacts of single use plastics. With that UNIMAS had practices Malaysia’s Roadmap Towards Zero Single- Use Plastics 2018-2030 Towards A Sustainable Future. UNIMAS has also enforced for all the provision of food and beverages in offices as well as events organized by UNIMAS using non-plastic materials to support this campaign.
