2. | The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) have launched various initiatives and financial aid programmes to ensure all students especially those from low-income (B40) backgrounds can access higher education without financial barriers. One key initiative is Program SULUNG 2.0 (2023/2024), which benefited 223 of 329 identified B40 students, with an internal allocation of RM473,812.67. The upgraded SULUNG 2.0+ guarantees eligible students on-campus accommodation throughout their studies, waives hostel fees for high achievers (GPA 3.50 and above), and offers job opportunities and skills development under Program PTS 2.0+. Under KPT’s SULUNG 3.0 for the 2024/2025 intake, 2,500 new students are targeted nationwide, with 589 UNIMAS applicants currently being reviewed by a university-level committee led by the Vice-Chancellor. UNIMAS additionally supports students affected by floods and continues the Food@Campus Keluarga Malaysia 2.0 programme, which provides RM100 e-wallet food coupons and maintains the Lemari Madani foodbank (run by the Student Representative Council) to supply dry food to B40 students. These measures demonstrate UNIMAS’s commitment to inclusive, equitable, and accessible higher education for all segments of society, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. | |||||||||||||
