1. | UNIMAS continues to strengthen its commitment to an inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities by implementing a buddy system, an access scheme that provides targeted support in which a student from the same faculty mentors and assists a student with disabilities throughout their studies. The university has also enhanced residential and learning facilities, including accessible rooms, improved pathways, and the provision of Kolej Cempaka as dedicated housing for students with disabilities, supported by collaborative efforts from faculty deans and department heads to ensure all needs are met. These initiatives, including support for new students, demonstrate UNIMAS’ ongoing commitment to providing access schemes with mentoring and targeted assistance to ensure every student, including those with disabilities, enjoys a comfortable and equitable learning experience.
2. | UNIMAS provides structured access schemes for students with disabilities (OKU) through mentoring and a wide range of targeted support services to ensure equitable participation in academic and campus life. The university operates an OKU Buddy System, where selected peers assist OKU students with mobility, daily campus navigation, and academic matters. This mentoring-style support is further strengthened through the UNIMAS Perihatin App, where OKU students can connect directly to their assigned buddies during emergencies or when assistance is needed. Beyond mentoring, UNIMAS offers targeted support through the Student Welfare Unit, including academic accommodations (extended exam time, alternative assessment formats), personal assistance (note-takers, sign-language interpreters), counselling, priority housing options designed for OKU students, and financial assistance for students requiring adaptive tools or support services. These initiatives collectively ensure that students with disabilities receive structured, ongoing, and personalised support throughout their studies at UNIMAS.
