On 12 September 2024, UNIMAS’s Institute of Sustainable & Renewable Energy (ISuRE) hosted a Low Carbon Living Workshop during the National Climate Governance Summit. The workshop brought together students, lecturers, and industry experts—alongside pre-university students (from PPPU)—to explore sustainable practices and lifestyle changes. Speakers presented the UNIMAS Low Carbon Campus Roadmap, discussed innovative food technologies (like biomass processing), and offered practical advice on reducing carbon footprint in daily life (e.g. housing, food, transport). Participants worked in groups to propose low-carbon actions and ended the workshop by making a digital pledge to adopt more sustainable habits, emerging as “Low Carbon Warriors.”

The UNIMAS-led YOUTHOPIAS project directly serves as a vital local education program on climate change, fulfilling the goal of raising community awareness. This international collaboration hosted a focused two-day workshop for 17 youths from coastal villages near Santubong, using the thematic focus "The Future of Our Seas" to directly address local climate change risks and impacts. By bringing in a marine scientist to explain how climate change affects humans and animals, and utilizing a Playful Participatory Mapping methodology, the program actively engaged young participants in creatively envisioning and articulating their own solutions, thereby fostering knowledge on adaptation and mitigation and empowering them to become proactive stewards of their environment.
