1. | On 21 November 2024, UNIMAS partnered with Accenture (in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and MyDigital Corporation) to advance the development of Sarawak’s first net-zero industrial cluster, part of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s Transitioning Industrial Cluster initiative. The workshop gathered over 50 stakeholders from industry, academia, and government—including the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit and Invest Sarawak—to explore decarbonisation strategies. Key discussion topics included renewable energy access (hydropower, biomass), policy and financing frameworks for green tech, and potential for a green hydrogen ecosystem. The collaboration aims to build long-term partnerships that will drive industrial decarbonization, attract green investments, create high-value jobs, and strengthen Sarawak’s role as a leader in sustainable industry.
2. | At the Global Leadership Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 6 November 2024, UNIMAS reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by emphasizing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) as a core institutional priority. In a forum titled “The Future of ESG,” industry leaders from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore discussed ESG’s growing role in corporate strategies, covering environmental responsibility, social equity, and governance transparency. UNIMAS’s own leadership contributed significantly: Prof. Ts. Dr. Shanti Faridah Salleh, Director of ISuRE, gave a keynote titled “ESG for a Better Future,” stressing the need for organizations to embed ESG into their long-term vision. Through these engagements, UNIMAS strengthens its role in global ESG advocacy and underscores its commitment to integrating sustainable development into teaching, research, operations, and community partnerships.
