Description
Evidence
1.

UNIMAS actively supports local and regional authorities in climate-related early warning, monitoring, and risk-management efforts through its research centres and technical expertise. Units such as the Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE), the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Resource Science & Technology (FRST) contribute data, modelling, and scientific input for issues such as flooding, heatwaves, haze, and hydrological risks in Sarawak. UNIMAS researchers frequently collaborate with government agencies—including the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), local councils, and state ministries—by providing climate-risk assessments, environmental monitoring, and evidence-based recommendations. Through workshops, climate-related training, and participation in state-level sustainability initiatives (including Sarawak’s Low-Carbon Blueprint), UNIMAS helps strengthen the region’s capacity for early warning systems and climate-disaster preparedness.

2.

The "ALAM-BoT and Digital Biodiversity Borneo Seminar" demonstrates UNIMAS’s commitment to supporting governmental efforts in local climate change risk monitoring. By hosting representatives from Sarawak Government agencies and promoting the Borneo Satellite Network (BoSaN), UNIMAS directly shares its advanced tools for real-time environmental data. BoSaN is specifically designed to digitalize and disseminate research findings on Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation, providing the critical, evidence-based data necessary for governmental bodies to develop early warning systems, implement disaster mitigation policies, and make informed decisions on managing environmental and ecological risks.
