The SLUSE program, a 25-year collaboration between UNIMAS and the University of Copenhagen, continues to provide transformative experiences for students in sustainable land use and natural resource management. This interdisciplinary program, offering master's degrees in Environmental Management or Environmental Sciences, blends natural and social science methodologies to address real-world environmental challenges. In 2024, 35 UNIMAS students and 30 University of Copenhagen students collaborated across six villages in Sarawak—Kampung Semada, Kampung Kepayang, Kampung Sebemban, Kampung Empelanjau, Kampung Kara Atas, and Gua Dunggat—engaging in soil and water sampling, biodiversity assessments, and camera trap studies of forest species. The program also assessed the livelihood conditions and perspectives of local Iban communities, providing practical applications for future roles in environmental consultancy or management.

2.
UNIMAS has a large lake in the campus which is the symbol and pride of the University. It has implemented a watershed management strategy based on location specific diversity of aquatic species. Several studies and research by students involving the UNIMAS lake ecosystem have been done where the value of WQI for UNIMAS lake is 91.44 and the lake can be classified as "Clean" which is suitable for water supply with a conventional treatment required, suitable for sensitive aquatic species and also suitable for recreational use with body contact.
