1.

UNIMAS demonstrates a strong and structured commitment to reducing plastic waste, embedding this goal within both its Sustainability Masterplan and ESG Policy rather than treating it as a minor initiative. The university’s approach combines formal requirements—such as mandating non-plastic containers at official events—with educational and community-based efforts like ecobrick projects and awareness programmes. Through these integrated actions, UNIMAS actively supports SDG 15 by minimizing plastic pollution on campus, thereby helping to protect soil quality, local biodiversity, and surrounding land ecosystems.

2.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), in collaboration with Yayasan Hijau (Green Foundation), recently held a dialogue titled “Pathways to Plastic Neutrality: Collaborative Action and Innovation Solution” to explore sustainable approaches to plastic use. The session emphasized reducing single-use plastics, adopting biodegradable plastics made from organic materials, and exploring alternative materials to replace conventional plastics. Experts, academics, and community members gathered to discuss collaborative strategies and innovative solutions, reflecting UNIMAS’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and responsible plastic management.
