Malaysia has introduced the Pangkalan Data Utama (PADU), a centralized citizen database aimed at improving precision governance by enabling more accurate policy planning and targeted distribution of subsidies. Developed by the Ministry of Economy, the Department of Statistics Malaysia, and MAMPU, PADU is intended to serve as the government’s main data reference for decision-making.However, Associate Professor Dr. Johari Abdullah of UNIMAS highlights several concerns that must be addressed to ensure public trust and system integrity. These include the need for independent cybersecurity assessments, real-time threat monitoring, stronger data protection measures such as encryption and access controls, improved network resilience, and more secure authentication methods beyond SMS—such as TOTP or hardware tokens. While PADU represents a significant step toward data-driven governance, enhancing cybersecurity, scalability, and user authentication is critical to ensuring its long-term effectiveness and credibility. | |||||||||||||
