The 9th eBKF in 2022 was a hybrid event held in Bario, Sarawak, combining virtual and physical participation. This approach aims to make it easier for participants from abroad and those unable to travel to join while also involving local communities and indigenous peoples (LCIPs) in the region, seen as crucial for its success. The theme for eBKF9 is "Climate Change, Sustainable Biodiversity, and Indigenous Knowledge on the island of Borneo," aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #13 and #15. The event reflects a shift towards recognizing indigenous knowledge in global environmental governance forums, acknowledging the wisdom developed by societies with deep connections to their natural environment.

As the main research Institute on the island, Institute of Biodiversity & Environmental Conservation (IBEC) UNIMAS conducts myriad of research on its flora and fauna. Understanding the need to educate the public on environmental conservation and protection, IBEC are committed in encouraging science outreach to rural areas and schools.

Most of the activities during our outreach includes informative talks on flora and fauna for adults and children, followed by gamification for kids while applying basic conservation knowledge and community cooperation work with adults at a specifically targeted population.
