On 30 November 2024, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), through the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FSTS), organised the Agrotech Workshop – Eggplant Fertigation at Kampung Semera as part of the Semera Lestari Programme under the 1 University 1 Village (1U1K) UNIMAS initiative. The programme aimed to empower the local community through knowledge sharing on Basic Fertigation System Modules and Community Development Projects. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Kampung Semera community, Agrotechnology lecturers, postgraduate students, the Agrotech media team, and FSTS support staff. The event was graced by the presence of UNIMAS Board of Directors Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Mat Jeraie, UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit, and the Dean and Deputy Deans of FSTS, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to promoting food security and sustainable community development.

On 17 January 2025, students from the STG3223 Apiculture Course of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) conducted a Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) programme with the community of Rumah Belayong, Empait Ulu Roban, Saratok. The programme focused on the importance of stingless bees (kelulut) as agents of pollination, flowering plant conservation, and contributors to biodiversity. Led by 10 students and 2 lecturers, the programme engaged 46 local participants and featured activities such as talks on the importance of apiculture, a special guest lecture by MARDI Saratok, tree planting, and the donation of hive and topping boxes. The village chief, Tuai Rumah Belayong, also guided participants on a visit to his own Belayong Honeybee enterprise, sharing valuable insights on honeybee cultivation. The programme, coordinated by Dr. Walftor Dumin and Dr. Bernard Maringgal, exemplified UNIMAS’s commitment to community empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation through experiential learning.
