1. | Dr. Bernard Maringgal from UNIMAS’s Faculty of Resource Science & Technology completed a one-month research visit to M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, where he collaborated on developing biodegradable food-packaging technology using agricultural waste such as wheat straw. The project, co-led with experts from UPM and Kazakhstan, aims to produce eco-friendly film that supports circular-economy practices and reduces dependence on plastic packaging. During the visit, Dr. Bernard also delivered lectures on Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and edible coatings, strengthening academic exchange and paving the way for deeper research collaboration between UNIMAS and South Kazakhstan University. | |||||||||||||

By giving preference to suppliers and producers who are regionally based and implement eco-responsible practices, the University seeks to Support Sarawak’s local agricultural and food-production economy, thereby enhancing regional livelihoods and reducing supply-chain transportation emissions and promote sustainably-grown or sustainably-harvested ingredients in campus food operations, ensuring that environmental impact is minimised through responsible sourcing. | |||||||||||||
