1. | On 9 March 2024, UNIMAS, through its Qadim Hub (part of the University Sustainability Centre), collaborated with Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak (PAKK) Desa Ilmu to run a one-day programme on reproductive health and sexuality education for youth aged 12–17.About 130 (or up to 150, per the Qadim Hub newsletter) participants took part. Speakers included Nor Akmariah Binti Abdullah of the Rahmah Support Team and trainer Mohd Khairul Ridhwan Adha Bin Akhiar, who addressed topics such as puberty, healthy Internet/gadget use, pornography, LGBT awareness, and STDs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafeah Wahi, Qadim Hub Coordinator, highlighted the importance of giving adolescents reliable information during this critical stage of their development.The PAKK chairperson, Adillah Ismail, praised the collaboration, noting that educating young people helps them make informed choices. | |||||||||||||
2. | From 22 to 23 November 2024, Qadim Hub, in collaboration with the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO, the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), UNIMAS, Semarak Kreatif Sdn. Bhd., and the Samarahan Social Welfare Department, organized the Children’s Sexuality Education Program through a theatre performance titled “Secret Survivor.” The play conveyed important messages about sexuality education and the prevention of child sexual abuse through performing arts, aiming to raise awareness among children and train youth and community advocates to educate others on this sensitive yet vital topic. The program also marked the Samarahan Division Children’s Day celebration, officiated by Dr. Ahmad Syafiq Ahmad Nasir, Deputy Director (Community Engagement), UNIMAS Centre for University Sustainability, and Puan Hajah Norhayati Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Director of the Sarawak Social Welfare Department, at the Experimental Theatre, FACA UNIMAS. The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, NGOs, academics, and local artists. According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafeah Wahi, Qadim Hub Coordinator, the program aims to empower children with basic knowledge of sexuality education and nurture more community changemakers. The theatre showcased three advocacy performances against child sexual crimes — “Di Bawah Akta” (directed by Azri Ali), “Secret Survivor” (directed by Syarafina Abdullah), and “Locker” (directed by Madzlan Abet). Qadim Hub, part of the UNIMAS Centre for University Sustainability, serves as a Knowledge for Change (K4C) Hub under the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education. | |||||||||||||
