2. | The Institute of Borneo Studies (IBS) at UNIMAS will host an upcoming IBS TALK SERIES on 28 April 2023, featuring Mr. Jayl Langub, a retired civil servant and Associate Research Fellow at IBS. The talk, titled “Rivers for Livelihood: Eastern Penan and Lun Bawang Perspectives,” will explore the sustainable management of clean water resources by the Penan and Lun Bawang communities. Mr. Langub will discuss how the Penan rely on clean river water to process sago flour, while the Lun Bawang use it for their rice fields. He will also explain the sustainable practices of the Penan, specifically the concepts of mihau and molong, and how they relate to the Lun Bawang’s agricultural methods. Mr. Langub, who is also an advisor to WWF-Malaysia and FORMADAT, a group focused on indigenous communities in the Borneo highlands, will share insights into the importance of conservation and sustainable development in preserving the natural resources of these communities. |
