1. | September 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), in collaboration with H2 Energy, implemented a clean energy initiative in Kampung Assum, Sarawak, to provide 30 kW of renewable power while integrating waste-management and water-treatment systems to support sustainable living in remote areas. This project not only advances clean energy access but also promotes responsible water use and treatment, demonstrating how renewable energy initiatives can be aligned with water conservation goals. Through community engagement and knowledge-sharing sessions, UNIMAS empowers local residents with practical understanding of water resource management, fostering sustainable practices beyond the campus and supporting long-term water conservation efforts in rural communities.
2. | Through the UNIMAS Water Centre and the University Sustainability Centre (USC), the university works with local communities, schools, government agencies, and industries to promote responsible water use and improve water security. Examples include community-based workshops on water quality monitoring, river-care awareness programmes, and training for rural communities on safe and sustainable water practices. UNIMAS researchers and students also conduct field projects such as installing mini water-treatment systems in rural schools (e.g., SMK Ulu Balingian), assessing river health in local villages, and supporting stormwater management awareness through public seminars. Annual events such as World Water Day celebrations involve off-campus participants and teach communities about water conservation, pollution prevention, and watershed protection. These activities show UNIMAS’s continuing commitment to strengthen regional water sustainability and empower surrounding communities with practical conservation knowledge
