1. | The Sarawak Sustainability Insights Conference, held on 29 October 2024, marked the launch of Sarawak’s Sustainability Blueprint, outlining ten strategic thrusts toward a low-carbon, environmentally responsible, and socially equitable future. Aligned with this blueprint, the university’s Low Carbon Campus roadmap advances renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, circular economy practices, biodiversity conservation, and green building design. Through sustainability education, eco-initiatives, and public engagement, the campus fosters environmental stewardship among its community. Supported by transparent ESG reporting and a GHG Dashboard to track emissions and resource use, the university demonstrates strong commitment to Sarawak’s sustainability goals and continues to expand its low-carbon initiatives to help shape a greener, more sustainable state.
2. | UNIMAS, through its Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE), made a significant contribution to the National Climate Governance Summit (NCGS) 2024 by hosting the Low Carbon Living Workshop on 12 September 2024, bringing together students—including those from Pusat Pengajian Pra-Universiti (PPPU)—lecturers, and industry experts to strengthen their role as future “Low Carbon Warriors.” The workshop featured insightful presentations by Prof. Ts. Dr. Shanti Faridah Salleh, Dr. Florianna Lendai Anak Micheal Mulok, Dr. Wahyu Meka, and Mr. Rudzaimeir Malek, covering the UNIMAS Low Carbon Campus Roadmap, sustainable emerging food technologies, and practical ways to adopt low-carbon lifestyles. Participants engaged in solution-focused group discussions and later joined a digital pledge led by Dr. Lennevey, committing to low-carbon habits. Concluding the event, Prof. Shanti emphasized the importance of youth leadership in climate action, marking the workshop as a successful effort in empowering a new generation—including PPPU students—to champion sustainability and contribute meaningfully to Sarawak’s journey toward net-zero emissions by 2050.
