There are many special facilities provided by UNIMAS to this group of people with disabilities especially involving the facilities around UNIMAS. Among them are parking lots, toilets, elevators and special paths for people with disabilities. UNIMAS through the Student Counseling & Welfare Unit also coordinates and implements consultation and management related to the affairs of students with Disabilities (OKU) to improve the best functionality and potential.

2.

UNIMAS continues to strengthen its commitment to an inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities by maintaining its buddy system, while significantly enhancing accessible facilities across campus. This includes upgrading residential colleges with accessible rooms, wider doorways, and safer, barrier-free walkways, as well as designating Kolej Cempaka as dedicated accommodation for students with disabilities. Supported by coordinated efforts from faculty deans and department heads, these improvements—alongside personalised assistance for students such as Steven Lias Sidi—demonstrate UNIMAS’ firm commitment to providing accessible facilities that ensure comfort, safety, and equitable learning experiences for all students.

UNIMAS provides specialized hostel rooms that are designed to be accessible for students with physical disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs. These rooms are equipped with wider doorways, low-height furniture, and other modifications to ensure ease of movement and access.Depending on the specific disability, some hostel rooms can be customized to meet the needs of students. For example, students with visual impairments might have rooms with better lighting or tactile indicators, while students with hearing impairments might benefit from visual or vibration-based alarm systems.

Dahlia Residential College (Kolej Dahlia) provide room for disability student.

4.

UNIMAS has launched the UNIMAS Perihatin safety app to enhance support for students with disabilities (OKU), offering features such as an SOS emergency alert that notifies campus security, the health centre, and assigned “buddies,” as well as activating a loud alarm to draw nearby attention. The app also includes a “Get Help” button for non-emergency assistance, danger-area reminders, and safe-route suggestions to guide students away from hazardous areas like construction zones or flood-prone paths. Initially benefiting over 90 OKU students, the initiative reflects UNIMAS’s commitment to equity and student safety, with plans to expand the app’s functions to issues such as bullying or sexual harassment and potentially extend its use to other institutions in the future.
